Born into a military family, I learned the importance of public service at a young age. My father was an Air Force officer and my mother a social worker primarily working with inner city youth. The military moved my family throughout the United States, Europe, and Asia, exposing me to a wide variety of cultures.
I graduated from Christopher Newport University with a degree in Political Science. While at CNU I was active in the student government serving as a SGA senator and on the budget committee. After graduation I moved to the DC Metro area and worked in real estate and finance learning the value of hard work. While living in the DC Metro area I participated in local campaigns and served as the Vice President of my local alumni association, helping young people network and find employment.
I met my fiancé Lindsey, a law student at the time, while vacationing in Ocean City, Maryland. Lindsey, a seventh generation Marylander and now a Baltimore County Assistant State’s Attorney, convinced me to move across the border to Maryland. We currently live in Historic Catonsville with our four month old German Shorthaired Pointer “Gunner.”
Why I’m Running
I’m running to make a difference in the lives of all Marylanders. In 2014 we are faced with numerous challenges in Maryland, challenges such as a weak recovery from a recession, job-loss, over taxation, aging infrastructure, budget shortfalls, environmental concerns, and social inequality. I’m running because I care deeply about the challenges we face and I know how important it is to address them in order for us to have a successful future.
Unfortunately, the current policies in place are ineffective and the new policies being implemented are a recipe for disaster. The Legislative leadership in Annapolis has let us down. Career politicians at the state house have pinning their hopes on federal bailouts while letting the base of our economy erode away. In a time of sequestration and reduction in federal spending, we cannot afford to continue on this path.
My Commitment to You
I will work relentlessly to bring new jobs to Maryland and will fight to keep the current jobs in our state. I will keep public safety and education a top priority. I will introduce tax legislation to make our state more competitive and to ensure that individuals and businesses are not taken advantage of. I will be cognoscente of the environment, and will support and ensure equal opportunities for all Marylanders regardless of race, religion, sexual orientation, background, and political affiliation. As a Hispanic-American born to a Puerto Rican mother; I believe embracing our diversity is the key to our success. As your representative I will work for you.
