#ECStrong: Old Ellicott City Comes Together For Remembrance Event One Year Later

Today, hundreds will attend events in Old Ellicott City to commemorate the events and losses that occurred as a result of the of the July 30, 2016 flood. Events will be held throughout the weekend and will kick off with an EC Strong 5K.

Some events will be reverent – as we remember the three lives lost and the severity of the flood. Some events will be joyful to celebrate our community’s resiliency and recovery. And many events will be to thank you – our loyal patrons and community. – Ellicott City Partnership

Shuttle service will be available on Saturday July 29th 10am – 4pm and will pick up guests at George Howard Building (3430 Courthouse Dr) and the Circuit Courthouse (8360 Court Av). Both lots offer ample free parking. The shuttle will stop in town at the intersections of Church & Main Streets plus Ellicott Mills Dr & Main St.

One of the most anticipated events is the Clock Dedication Ceremony, which will commence at 11:30am. Found in the river in the days after the flood, the clock became a beacon of hope and strength as it was hoisted in a special impromptu ceremony by emergency workers in August 2016.

The unveiling ceremony will take place at 11:30 in front of the B&O Rail Museum. The community is invited to attend. Also joining us will be the Howard County Fire Department Honor Guard and the Tower 2 ladder truck from just up the road.

A special thank you to the Ellicott City Kiwanis for their continued support and sponsorship of the iconic clock.

Ellicott City’s recovery from last July’s flood wouldn’t have been possible without the support of so many people from all across the state and the nation. I hope you will consider joining us this Saturday, July 29, at 11:30 a.m. at the corner of Main Street and Maryland Avenue, as we dedicate a new clock. And afterward, please support our Main Street merchants. 92% of the businesses have come back and 17 new businesses have opened. Thanks to the team from Howard County Recreation and Parks and the Bureau of Highways who have been hard at work this week getting things in place for the ceremony. #ECSTRONG #commUNITY For a complete rundown of all this weekend’s flood commemoration activities, visit http://visitoldellicottcity.com/flood-anniversary-commemoration/
