Earlier today, County Executive Allan Kittleman took the bold step and spoke out against the comments allegedly made by President Donald Trump during an immigration meeting at the White House. The President’s comments were widely reported by major news outlets.
The comments attributed to President Trump which insulted people from the Caribbean, Central America and Africa should be troubling and deeply disturbing to every American. As the son of a Republican leader who fought for equality and fairness for every person regardless of their race, religion, gender or country of origin, it is important for members of all political parties, particularly Republicans, to speak out against such ignorant and unacceptable beliefs.
This is even more significant as, over the next several days, we celebrate the life and work of a great African American, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Let us all come together to stand up to those who would try to divide us. For as Dr. King said, “we may have all come on different ships, but we’re in the same boat now!”
I am proud to be the County Executive of a very diverse county and even more proud to be in “the same boat” with talented, compassionate and amazing individuals from El Salvador, Haiti, Africa and other countries around the world. #OneHoward
