On Thursday, May 4th, 2017, Howard County Executive Allan Kittleman made the following information available on the County Executive’s Facebook page:
A vacancy was created earlier this week when board member Christine O’Connor resigned. Under state law, the county executive appoints, subject to confirmation by the County Council, a qualified individual to fill any vacancy on the Board. The appointee will serve the remainder of O’Connor’s term. Applicants must be a resident of Howard County and a registered voter.
“During this time of transition for the school system, we will move quickly to fill this vacancy,” said Kittleman. “Education has always been my top priority. As I review applications, I’ll be looking for a candidate committed to ensuring that we continue to improve our top-ranked school system. I will also be looking for a candidate whose experience complements the backgrounds of current board members.”
Kittleman, who has made services and accommodations for residents with disabilities a priority, will also look for ideas and a commitment to support the special education needs of our students.
Applicants should submit a resume and letter of interest to akittleman@howardcountymd.gov.
Applications will be accepted until Friday, May 12, 2017 at 5:00 p.m.
